Lower Key Stage 2 Curriculum

In Lower Key Stage Two, your child will learn through a creative curriculum approach. Each half term, we will have a theme that will support learning across most of our subjects. We are very keen on each child learning in anyway that suits their learning style. Please continue reading to find our what topics we are focusing on throughout the half term.

Reading

At the beginning of the year, we ask children to complete a Star Reading Assessment. This quiz includes questions that test the children's understanding of an image, a small passage of text or a the definition of word. This test gives staff a ZPD result (Zone of Proximal Development) that is then used to work out what range of books the child may select. To allow the children to remember what range they should select, we have adapted a more memorable animal system where the children may choose a book from an animal section that actually refers back to the range discussed above. After reading one of the books from the section, the children should then complete a quiz based on the book by logging on to the star reader website (address and further detail is given on the home help section of LKS2 section of this website).

Please find below our Parent Webs for this calendar year. This will provide you with an overview of what your child is learning about at school through our theme based approach to learning. If you have any questions about our curriculum design, please come and find one of us in school.
